Reluctant Angel

At first i sensed a shiver

And then the message from within

I prayed i would remember

How it was i should begin

'Treat Thy Neighbour as Thyself'

Sprang forth from deep inside

Forget about your ego

The part that makes you want to hide

Remember, I am with you

Spirit from within

Cast your fears aside a moment

Then We shall begin

'If there is something that needs to be done

Do it' said the Voice

'Do it because it's Right

This could always be your choice'

'I'm tired', 'I'm broke', 'I'm lonely'

I heard myself protest

'I have nothing to offer'

'Nothing at which i am best'

'This is not a race, dear child'

'There is no 'Us' or 'They'

We're all in this together

On this path long gone astray

If there is something you know

Is true inside your Heart

Be unafraid to claim it

Be willing only to start

For there are Angels everywhere

Above and Here below

Who are eager to help us out

Remember this and know

There is much work to be done

it all begins with you

To whom much is given

much is expected too

Put away your childish games
the ones that keep you small

Know that in your heart there is

an Angel behind that wall
